Professor Narabayashi's idea was original in the hard postwar period in Japan.

 

 

Hitchcock frame, UK

originally made for stereotaxis for the posterior fossa and cervical spinal cord

Cooper's targeting device for basal ganglia surgery (lt)

 

Old surgery for parkinson disease. (rt)

Most procedures aimed at the pyramidal tract to relieve tremor, but, of course, they resulted in hemiparesis. Cooper incidentally injured the anterior choroidal artery at attempted pedunculotomy, and found infarction of the globus pallidus gave good effect on parkinson disease.
